i'm so fed up. one of my cats seems hell bent on destroying christmas. every morning i come down to find the tree on the floor when i picked it up one of the legs have broken. she has also chewed my lovely vitoria santa which stands on the floor and the candle wreath on the dining room table. any ideas what to do with her, at the moment she is outside and she can stay there for all i care. last night she even bit my toes. really am fed up with it all i feel like taking the tree down and packing it away.

Buy her some toys and some cat treats and give her those instead. Can you not shut the room up where the tree is at night. I don't have a tree as I know my cats would think yipee and swing off it and play with the decorations. Hope her manners improve.

Strange...... Mandy's cat turned on her on Sunday and bit her. Perhaps its the feline liberation front (Provisional Wing) trying to take over the world. Cleo also made it clear that she is turning into a very fussy eater and is turning her nose up to Whiskas Meat & Pea whilst pigging herself on Tuna only to honk it up on the carpet in front of us both a minute or two later.....

Kipper was the same when he was a younger kitty, he is 6 now and much better.
Tin foil is the thing cats hate.
put it round the base of the tree and cat will avoid it.

Could you spray it with something that cats dislike? YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

I saw someone walking their golden labrador in the village this morning ...... she'd tied a piece of gold tinsel around his neck! Very festive!  Carol

Hi Lynne,
Naughty pussy. I keep my living room door closed at night so my 2 little kittens can't wreck and cause havoc when I'm not around. As they are too small they can't go out at the moment so are stuck indoors with me for the time being. Last night one of my cheeky kitties took my newly purchased miracle insoles from my shoes and ripped them to pieces whilst I was in asleep, and then this morning upchucked the lot. I try and exhaust my kittens by playing with them before I go to bed - my little Coco & Iggy love the tickle stick and enjoy chasing after a bit of paper tied to a piece of string. I also find that having kept cats for years it's easier to keep 2 than one as they tend to keep each other occupied.
Jenni, thanks for the tip about the tin foil will definitely try this out as I've been wondering with the kitties what will happen to the tree when it goes up this weekend.

I always thought this was one of the joys of cats and Christmas - coming down in the morning to see baubles all over the floor and a couple of tinsel strewn cats flat out on the rug! It just makes us laugh!

My cat, Dave, is a devil for attacking stuff and scratching furniture so we shut the internal downstairs doors at night or he can do untold damage!!
He is not allowed out doors due to having FIP and has fits but we have a big house and there is plenty of room for him to roam about, even with the doors closed.
I agree with Jean about the joys of cats, he loves playing with the baubles and its lovely to watch him get so much pleasure from something.
We dont know how long we have left with him, he had a terminal diagnosis over a year ago so we try and enjoy him while we can.

thanks for all the advise i can't close the doors as we have a lounge/diner and if we close them in the kitchen they can't get outside
as the back door and cat flap is in the diner end. tomorrow when i go shopping i'll get them some toys and treats mind you they love
extra strong mints and crisps. so fingers crossed.

just to let you know i've something to stop the cat attacking the tree etc.. it's snow she has loved playing in it. ken went out today and throw snowballs for her which she loved. now why didn't i think of that before???

 well there you go distraction she was bored bless,does she like ribbons ours gone mad over them today. even the older 1 who doesnt usally play. now have u got snow machine for when it melts to make more. ?lv inky07 cuddly cats make my world seem so much more fun

Sorry you are having catty problems. I must say, I was worried our two kittens would wreck the Christmas tree but that, so far, hasn't happened.
We made a point, when putting the tree up, to play with the kits with some of their toys and , so far, we've had no trouble.
When it comes to training kittens/cats to behave, you need to speak with authority and also to have something with which to chastise the kitten/cat. We use a bottle of water with a spray attachment. A quick squirt (on widespread spray action) soon teaches the kittens what is acceptable and what isn't. I remember our old cat biting me when he was a kitten. A quick flick to his nose and terse words saw that never happened again.
I hope your cat starts to behave (can you lock him out of the living room at night) and that you enjoy Christmas.Bob
